Halloween is right around the corner, and it is always fun to pretend to be someone you are not. However, certain acts while pretending to be another person can lead to fines or imprisonment.

CAL. PEN. CODE § 529

If you pretend to be a person and take possession of property in their name, sign a contract in their name, or become liable to any sum of money or any forfeiture such that you have gained a benefit by impersonating another person, you can be fined up to $10,000 or could face up to 1 year in jail.
